Background

  • The ICTC Governing Board dba AmSkills was established through an interlocal agreement between Pinellas, Pasco & Hernando specifically as an Economic Development initiative in November 2014. In April 2017 a separate non-profit entity, “AmSkills Apprenticeship Foundation, Inc (AAF)” was established to specifically to apply for & receive grants, donations & sponsorships for AmSkills. AAF is a 509 (a) (3), under the section 501c3 tax-exempt effective. A 509 (a) (3) Type I supporting organization is operated, supervised, or controlled by one or more publicly supported charities.

In May, 2020 the name of AmSkills Apprenticeship Foundation, Inc. was officially shortened to AmSkills, Inc. in preparation of the ICTC Governing Board transferring to AmSkills, Inc. , a Florida Registered 501c3 non-profit organization.

  • In 2016 the Florida Chamber of Commerce completed a survey of local colleges which indicated that only 11% of employers thought that college graduates are prepared for the workforce; and locally more than 74% of those interviewed for jobs in manufacturing were un-qualified for the job. In addition, on average more than 22% do not graduate from high school in Pasco, Pinellas and Hernando Counties, which equates to approximately 66,000 young adults who don’t earn a high school degree.

AmSkills is dedicated to providing 80% hands-on skills training to youth, adults and veterans for high demand manufacturing careers, providing technical, soft and life skills training, and partnering with industry to provide potential long-term employees. Tampa Bay has the largest concentration of manufacturers in the State of Florida and AmSkills is not only helping our existing base to thrive, but also to recruit new manufacturers to our community.

Our Purpose

AmSkills, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit with the purpose of seeking grants and other funding sources to educate the community about the manufacturing industry, and to transform lives and strengthen communities through workforce training & apprenticeship opportunities for youth, adults, veterans, and the economically disadvantaged.
